The Society of Neural Prosthetics and Whole Brain Emulation Science
"The brain is a world consisting of a number of unexplored continents and great stretches of unknown territory." -- Santiago Ramón y Cajal
The focus of the Society of Neural Prosthetics and Whole Brain Emulation Science is on the enabling and maintaining of collaborative networks of individuals who express through their work a special interest in that area of applied neuroscience that explores the progression from neural prosthetic procedures to the prosthetic emulation of whole brain function.
Near-term objectives of the society:
- Foster interdisciplinary collaboration between scientists and medical practitioners involved with the development of prosthetic devices for the many different faculties and functional components of the brain.
- Emphasize the study of integration between the developing neural prosthetics for different functional components of the brain.
- Further the development of increasingly accurate whole brain emulation in a computational substrate that is accessible for the study of human brain function from the level of neural activity (neurophysiology) to the level of whole brain system function (psychology).
Long-term objectives of the society:
- Apply whole brain emulation medical procedures to otherwise incurable neural disease (e.g. ALS), deterioration (e.g Alzheimer's, Parkinson's) or damage (e.g. brain injury).
- Apply whole brain emulation as a precautionary strategy for the human social and ecological system (in a paradigm similar to the preservation of endangered species through cryonic storage of sperm and other reproductive cells).
