I believe in version 3.  I believe that gradual replacement will become
feasible before either version 1 or 2.  The quicker we get on to gradual
replacement and augmentation the easier it will be to make progress on 1
and 2.  Actually the success of 3 will probably act to encourage more
people to work on 1 and 2.  Just my thoughts -- I've been in favor of 3
or a version of 3 for a long time.
