Hi Eugen:

|A good sales pitch would be a worm, fly, mouse roadmap. A worm would be
|actually doable on a moderate budget, which should secure funds for the fly.
|The fly alone results in tremendous spinoffs, so everything beyond that is a
|self-runner.

I don't see why there would be tremendous spinoffs for the fly. That
sounds really strange to me but maybe I'm ignorant. Can you explain
it to me?

|The worm circuit is too specialized and too primitive to be used for direct
|applications. Ability to simulate worms + environment in realtime is valuable
|for other biologically inspired neuronal circuits which could be useful for
|navigation and control.

Biologically inspired, yes. But it would be almost impossible to make
money from that. Inspiration is mostly free in the current economy.

|However, I'm assuming an investor would be interested in that long-term ROI
|called personal immortality. MURG emanates too much whiff of lunatic fringe
|to be palatable to the usual seat-of-the-pants investor.

I don't know all the lunatics in MURG, but I'm not suggesting a free
free ride for all. Trying to get funding requires tremendous amounts
of planning but I think some of us in MURG, plus other people, might
be able to pull it off.

|I'm somewhat at loss what your scheme is -- do you have a good writeup?
|Also the application transfer appears highly speculative.

Sorry, not yet, but I'll write one if I get some positive feedback.
The whole thing *is* speculative. It is basically a way to give some
financial rewards back to researchers when their contributions will
only pay off decade(s) later. For example we may create a clause for
researchers to sell their IP rights specifically for the purpose of
uploading/neuroprosthesis. This way they can still publish or use
their work in other contexts.

|Starting with a simple target _is_ systematic treatment. Theory doesn't help
|if you're trying to develop scanning automation. You need engineers, not
|scientists for that.

That's not a very nice thing to say. We're working together, not
against each other.
