That's a curious thing to say and I'm not sure how it is relevant to the
reality of funding. Whether or not a person thinks something is a
"god-given right" has no bearing on whether funding is actually made
available or not. It seems unlikely that the government bodies responsible
for funding fundamental research would hand out money simply because the
recipient has a particular ideology. It is more likely that the government
sees a real benefit in funding the sciences.
