This is a serious problem, I think the problem is that
culturally human beings in general are too much ingrained
in the idea of life being tied to the biological body and
it would be extremely difficult to change people's minds
on a large scale. Therefore I think the gradual "neuro-
-prosthetic" approach isn't such a bad idea afterall. One
thing we can do is to organize a Neuroprothesis consortium
but in reality we can (quite legitimately) separate it into
a brain-interfacing part and everything else essential to
brain emulation. Then, the cost of BCI will only affect
those people who (eventually) choose the gradual approach.
Maybe we should think of a term more easily understood than
neuroprosthesis...
