Hi, John. I'd like to give you my warmest welcome, though I spend most of
the time lurking due to lack of time and of specific knowledge (to keep the
signal to noise ratio high, as some say ;) ) I'm an industrial engineering
student from Spain, an enthusiast of science and technology and a hardline
uploader. I'm not so troubled about the duplication problem you mention, but
I think that our differences are quite irrelevant, for the following
reasons:
First, I consider gradual uploading far safer, in principle, than hard
uploading, and would no doubt prefer it if given the choice.
Besides, I think that gradual uploading will be technically viable in the
not-so-distant future, especially after molecular nanotechnology is fully
developed.
And finally, there are some people out there who think and claim that mind
uploading, no matter how gradual, and even advanced neuronal prosthetics,
should be outlawed, and measures taken against the resulting "inhuman"
beings, including their physical destruction.
So, taking all this into account, our points of view are pretty much the
same.
yours,
Martin O. Baldan
