It should; archives full of juicy bits draw search engines, and new members.

Notice that I've been running http://leitl.org/murg2/threads.html and
http://leitl.org/murg1/threads.html which both draw a lot of hits.

Yes. Blog would be nice to be run as a news ticker. It could look like this:
http://scitech.detrans.de/mt/scitech/index.html which is run on Movable Type.
