Hi There,
In the earlier discussion today personality was
mentioned. Mind uploading implies transfer of
personality. By it's very base personality implies the
nature of our relationships with the world around us.
This may include our relationship with the sun, our
favourite places and things, and it may also include
other persons. All those around us - our families,
friends, relatives, customers, associates, aquintances
etc., etc. They all contribute to our social
personality.
Now if we are going to upload our minds are we going
to take them all with us? I've been thinking about
this issue for the past week. Most people are not
interested in the concept of mind uploading, and some
may feel uncomfortable about the whole idea. I think
they should be respected.
The tough question in the end is:
If a person who is a part of our lives and our social
personality says that he/she doesn't want to be in the
mind of some strange uploaded new kind of creature -
what should we do?
A. Compromise our social personality, respect that
person's wish and not include her in our uploaded
mind.
B. Stick tight to the idea that mind uploading is
strickly about 100% personality transfer and direspect
that person's wish.
C. Abandon the project
Kind Regards,
Thomas
