Actually, yes - I meant the spirit. I avoid the word
"soul" as this is more reserved for specific
denominations. A spirit is free and does not have to
abide to any specific religion. And a spirit steers
away from superstitions and strives to be logical and
rational. From the way you express it I read that you
are an atheist which is good for science. I believe in

G.O.D. which simply stands for Good Orderly Direction
and has never been in any conflict with any rational
reasoning.
On a few occasions I had suggested that parallel to
the current discussions at MURG some more attention
should be directed at the psychological aspect of mind
uploading. As of now the MIND itself still remains a
big mystery and no efforts are being made to
de-mystify it.
Trying to analyze the human mind sooner or later we
will come around the "spirit". I just use this word
for it because I don't know any better one - and it
does not need to mean anything spooky, superstitious
or subreal.
My observation is that there is some sort of a
"constant" in our minds which is strongly connected to
our "I" - the sense of self and is not completely
determined by the amount of information we carry.
The information contained by our minds is tenfold
greater now than when we were 10 years old, yet that
"constant" - the life force remains the same.
Actually small children with still "empty minds" seem
to have more of that "constant" than old people loaded
with knowledge and wisdom. So perhaps the "spirit" has
in reality little to do with the information contained
by the mind. The way I try to understand the spirit is
that it is the driving force of any living organism
and that it can be explained scientifically in logical
and rational terms.

Kind Regards,
Thomas
