MSc Cognitive Neuroscience
This Masters programme is provided jointly by the Department of
Psychology and York NeuroImaging Centre (YNIC)
http://www.ynic.york.ac.uk/. The YNIC contains a 3T MRI machine, a
whole-head MEG device and high density EEG recording capabilities. The
course has been developed around training and research in the use of
modern methods for studying the human brain using non-invasive imaging
techniques including functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI),
magnetoencephalography (MEG), eye movement recording, psychophysical
methods and neuropsychological assessment. These techniques are all
supported by access to high performance, state-of-the art computing
facilities. Special-purpose modules are focussed on how non-invasive
imaging has contributed to scientific advances in both psychology and
neuroscience, particularly in the areas of perception, emotion, memory,
attention and language. The course includes hands-on experience in
techniques such as fMRI and MEG and instruction will be provided by
dedicated imaging staff in the NeuroImaging Centre working closely with
psychologists. MSc students will be encouraged to use the dedicated
facilities in research projects and the open-access training and
analysis suite will be available to all students.
Applicants should normally hold, or expect to hold by the appointment
date, a BSc in Psychology, Computer Science, AI, Neuroscience,
Engineering or a related numerate discipline. One University scholarship
and four departmental scholarships are available on a competitive basis
for Psychology Masters courses in the year 2005/06.
