This post is part of a large multi-centre project  "Integrative
computation for autonomous agents: a novel approach based on the
vertebrate brain" between the Adaptive Behaviour Research Group at the
University of Sheffield (www.sheffield.ac.uk/~abrg), the Universities of
Manchester, Aberystwyth, Bristol, Oxford, Cambridge, Dundee, and an
industrial partner - BAE Systems. The aim of this interdisciplinary
project is to develop, implement, and evaluate novel biologically
inspired methods of systems integration for the flexible and adaptable
control of behaviour. This post will focus on systems level modeling of
the animal visual orienting system, and its interaction with action
selection processes in the basal ganglia. Applicants should have a good
honours degree in Neuroscience, Mathematics, Physics, Engineering or
related field, and should hold, or expect to hold a PhD, preferably in
computational neuroscience or a related field of mathematical modelling.
This post is tenable from 4th April 2005 for up to 5 years, depending on
salary appointed to.
